| The old fort at Khasab dominates the small harbour, which does a daily trade with Iran across the Straits of Hormuz. The fort is now almost completely restored and also contains examples of traditional Omani boats. Visitors to Musandam, in the remote northern part of Oman, usually fly in to the airport, which lies a few kilometres inland from the prosperous town of Khasab. From Khasab you can take the spectacular corniche route along the coast, with its beautiful and unspoilt beaches, or take the southern route and climb to almost 6,000 feet into the mountains to take in some incredible scenery. Musandam is an increasingly popular destination for visitors travelling from Dubai in search of a quieter and more peaceful environment. | |||
